Wkrótce rusza kolejna edycja New York Polish Film Festival
Art has the power to build contexts and the art of cinema in particular has the ability to display the complexities of human struggle. Every year since 2005, New York Polish Film Festival encourages the discussion about the ideas that shape our tangible, everyday reality. The 17th edition of the NYPFF in particular has been designed to highlight historic and cultural ties between the countries in the Eastern and Central Europe and to show the solidarity to Ukrainian filmmakers and their nation.
This year’s edition will showcase seven films at the Scandinavia House (June 3-5, 2022, 58 Park Ave, New York, NY 10016). The films will be also available at dedicated online streaming platform (June 7-28, 2022).
The program opens with the Reflection (Ukraine, 2021) directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych. The film centers on Ukrainian surgeon Serhiy, who is captured by the Russian military forces in the conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine, and while in captivity, he is exposed to horrifying scenes of humiliation, violence and indifference toward human life. In addition to providing a historical context to current conflict in the Ukraine, NYPFF’s screenings will present the newest productions of well-established Polish film directors like Kinga Dębska (Zupa nic and documentary Actress) or Jan P. Matuszyński (Leave no Traces), as well as new voices like Anna Kokoszka – Romer (documentary Polanski, Horowitz). The program includes also a special screening of Mr. Jones directed by Agnieszka Holland.

Nieprzerwanie od 2005 roku, New York Polish Film Festival wyznacza pole do dyskusji na temat idei, które kształtują naszą codzienność. Program siedemnastej edycji festiwalu powstał z intencją nakreślenia historycznych i kulturowych więzi łączących kraje w środkowej i wschodniej Europie. Festiwal otworzy obraz Reflection (Ukraina, 2021) w reżyserii Valentyna Vasyanovycha. Film koncentruje się na losach ukraińskiego chirurga Serhiy’a, który zostaje schwytany przez rosyjskie siły zbrojne w strefie konfliktu we wschodniej Ukrainie. W niewoli, jest wystawiony na przerażające sceny upokorzenia, przemocy i obojętności wobec ludzkiego życia. Poza przywołaniem historycznego kontekstu dla bieżącego konfliktu na Ukrainie, program NYPFF będzie okazją do zapoznana się z najnowszymi produkcjami uznanych polskich reżyserów takich, jak Kinga Dębska (Zupa nic oraz dokument Aktorka) oraz Jan P. Matuszyński (Żeby nie było śladów). Nie zabraknie także debiutanckiego głosu w postaci dokumentu Polański, Horowitz w reżyserii Anny Kokoszka-Romer. Ważnym punktem festiwalu będzie również specjalny pokaz Mr. Jones w reżyserii Agnieszki Holland.
Siedemnasta edycja New York Polish Film Festival to nie tylko święto kina. Swoją obecnością, festiwal podtrzymuje tradycję kultury dialogu i swobodnej wymiany myśli.
